Parliament approves law on defense procurement

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law "On defense procurement" in its entirety.

Some 276 MPs voted in favor of the document, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The relevant Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence prepared a comparative table to the bill. It includes 650 amendments and proposals, of which 430 were taken into account and 220 were rejected.

The draft law defines the general legal basis for planning procurement, the procedure for forming the amount and peculiarities of procurement of defense goods, works and services to meet the needs of the security and defense sector. The bill also provides for the procedure for state and democratic civilian control in the field of defense procurement etc.

The bill envisages a three-year procurement plan, support for the national defense industry, both public and private sectors.

As reported, the Ukrainian parliament approved the bill “On defense procurement” at first reading on December 5, 2019.
