Reintegration Ministry develops roadmap for construction of houses for Crimean Tatars in Kherson region

The Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine is developing a roadmap and finalizing documents to determine the technical issues of construction of housing for internally displaced persons from Crimea in Kherson region. The project is expected to be financed by Turkey.

This was discussed at a meeting between Deputy Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine David Makaryan and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Ukraine Yağmur Ahmet Güldere, the Ministry’s press service reports.

"Turkey has confirmed its interest in helping Ukraine to provide housing for about 500 Crimean Tatar families who have been forced to flee their homes due to Russia's occupation of the Crimean peninsula. President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a corresponding statement at a briefing with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in February. Our Ministry is currently developing a roadmap for the implementation of this project and is finalizing the documents that will determine the technical issues of construction of housing for internally displaced persons from Crimea in Kherson region," Makaryan said.

It is noted that residential complexes and social infrastructure for IDPs from occupied Crimea will be built in Kherson city and Henichesk town with the assistance of Turkey.

Construction is scheduled to begin this year so that people can move into newly built housing in the spring of 2021.

The project is financed by the Turkish side.

The Deputy Minister also thanked the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey for his assistance to Ukrainians who have suffered from the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.

In turn, Yağmur Ahmet Güldere assured the representatives of the Ministry of Reintegration of further support and cooperation in the protection of Ukrainian citizens affected by the Russian aggression and in deepening cooperation between the two countries.

As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in February that Turkey would assist in the construction of housing for IDPs from occupied Crimea, including more than 500 Crimean Tatar families, in the Kherson region
