Lithuania committed to developing strategic partnership with Ukraine

Lithuania is committed to developing a strategic partnership with Ukraine and will make efforts to consolidate international support for reforms.

Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Valdemaras Sarapinas said this at a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnar on July 6, 2020, the Foreign Ministry’s press service reported.

The interlocutors discussed preparations for a meeting of the Council of Presidents of Ukraine and Lithuania, which will be held this year, and other bilateral events within trade, economic, and investment cooperation, as well as European integration.

Bodnar thanked the Lithuanian diplomat for supporting Ukraine in obtaining an Enhanced Opportunity Partner status and for helping to counter Russian aggression against Ukraine, which is an important component of security and defense cooperation.

The Lithuanian ambassador also expressed support for the reform process in Ukraine and assured of readiness for close cooperation to prepare Ukraine Reform Conference, which was to be held these days in Vilnius, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, Bodnar congratulated Lithuania on Statehood Day, which is celebrated annually on July 6.

As reported, on June 12, the North Atlantic Council recognized Ukraine as an Enhanced Opportunities Partner.
