Second language in Ukraine should be English, not Russian – Danilov

The only state language in Ukraine must be Ukrainian. The second language to be studied from kindergarten should be English.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov said this in an interview with the Ukrayinska Pravda online media outlet.

“The issue of language is very important and fundamental for the state. We cannot have a second language, like Russian, not because it does not need to be studied or known. If we are talking about Ukraine, there must be the only state language – Ukrainian," he said.

“Should there be a second language in Ukraine? Of course, it should be. But it should be English, which will be studied starting from kindergarten. All citizens of Ukraine, if we want to live in a civilized world, should know and use English. This is a mandatory thing,” Danilov noted.

As Ukrinform reported, on October 3, 2019, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Oleksiy Danilov as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
