Ukrainian, French diplomats prepare Macron's visit to Kyiv

First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar and French Ambassador to Ukraine Etienne de Poncins exchanged views on the preparation of a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Kyiv.

This was reported by the Foreign Ministry's press service following a meeting between Emine Dzheppar and Etienne de Poncins on June 30.

“They exchanged views on the preparation of upcoming bilateral political contacts, in particular on the visit by President of France Emmanuel Macron to Kyiv at the invitation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky,” the report reads.

The parties agreed to intensify trade, economic and investment cooperation, and to implement joint projects. In addition, they confirmed the intention to hold a meeting of the bilateral economic commission as soon as the epidemiological situation improves.

The deputy foreign minister thanked France for its assistance in social and economic recovery of eastern regions of Ukraine, which suffered from Russian aggression.

"Emine Dzheppar asked the French side to consider the possibility of providing assistance to flood-affected regions in western Ukraine," the report says.

As Ukrinform reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron during a phone call on April 27 discussed the coordination of efforts to overcome the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the situation in Donbas.

In addition, Zelensky invited Macron to visit Ukraine after the pandemic. Macron, in turn, confirmed his intention to visit Ukraine.
