Vakarchuk resigns his parliamentary seat
Svyatoslav Vakarchuk has registered an application at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to resign his seat.
"I have already said that I consider my mission to be partially fulfilled: I believe that we have brought to parliament a faction that is just beginning its life ... Summing up this part of my personal task, I want to say that today I have registered a resignation letter. It is registered, and I hope that it will be properly considered in the near future," Vakarchuk said at a briefing on June 11, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
However, he noted that this decision in no way meant the cessation of his political activities or participation in the Holos party.
At the same time, when asked by journalists whether he plans to run for a mayor of Kyiv or Lviv, Vakarchuk answered: "The most important feature of any politician, whether he or she is an old politician or a new one, is to increase interest in his or her political force. Everything I will do will be aimed at that."
As reported, for the first time Svyatoslav Vakarchuk took part in the early parliamentary elections on September 30, 2007 as a member of the pro-presidential bloc "Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense". He was elected in a multi-member constituency. On November 23, 2007, Vakarchuk became MP. However, on September 11, 2008, he resigned. On December 16, 2008, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution on the early termination of his powers.
On May 16, 2019, Vakarchuk presented his political party "Holos", he headed the party list. In the 2019 parliamentary elections, Holos party received 5.82% of the vote.
On August 29, 2019, the Holos faction was created in the Parliament, and Serhiy Rakhmanin became its leader.
