Berlin confirms Kuleba’s visit

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will hold direct talks with his German counterpart in Berlin on June 2.

German Federal Foreign Office spokesperson Maria Adebahr said this at a briefing on Friday, May 29, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“On Tuesday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba will be on a visit to Berlin,” Adebahr said adding that this would be a “physical meeting” that hadn’t been held for a long time.

The talks will focus on the conflict in eastern Ukraine, progress in the "Normandy format", the implementation of the December summit agreements in this format, as well as a number of bilateral topics, including COVID-19. After the negotiations, there will be a joint press conference.

The spokesperson recalled that the other day a Normandy format ministerial meeting was held via video conference, at which it was agreed to hold at least one more ministerial meeting before a possible summit of leaders. The main issues that need to be discussed and which are on the TCG agenda are the ceasefire, the further exchange of detainees, the creation of checkpoints, and the further disengagement of forces.

Berlin should be the venue for the next Normandy format summit when it becomes possible to prepare it.
