Shmyhal: Ukraine’s economic recovery expected in second half of 2020

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has stated that the implementation of the economic stimulus program to overcome consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic will help revive Ukraine’s economy in the second half of the year.

“We will start implementing every step of the strategy in order to reach economic recovery in the second half of this year," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on May 27, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

He said that the program had been created in four stages. More than ten working groups of leading experts, dozens of associations took part in its development, and representatives of medium and large businesses in their leading industry developed a list of initiatives.

The prime minister stressed that the strategy provides for a comprehensive response to all aspects of the crisis in Ukraine.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers on May 20 decided to move to a so-called adaptive lockdown model from May 22 to June 22.

As of May 27, Ukraine reported 21,905 coronavirus cases, including 321 COVID-19 infections confirmed in the previous day.
