Ukraine, Turkmenistan to deepen political and economic relations

Turkmenistan is an important partner of Ukraine in the Central Asian region.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said this during a phone conversation with Deputy Chairperson of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Raşit Meredow on April 2, the Foreign Ministry's press service reported.

“Ukraine and Turkmenistan will deepen political and economic relations ... The interlocutors noted the importance of an intensive political dialogue at high and highest levels. They made a special emphasis on issues of trade and expanding the geography of business projects on mutually beneficial conditions,” the report reads.

Kuleba focused on the need for active cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries and expressed interest in holding a regular meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Turkmen Commission on Economic, Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation.

According to the Foreign Ministry, trade turnover between the countries in 2019 amounted to USD 137.89 million. Exports of goods totaled USD 54.93 million, and imports of goods to Ukraine was USD 82.96 million.
