Ministry of Digital Transformation working on introduction of electronic voting

The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine is working on the introduction of electronic voting in elections, according to a report posted on the ministry's page on Facebook.

"We are working to introduce electronic voting in elections. Last week, MPs from the committees on digital transformation and the organization of state power, local self-government, regional development and urban planning, the Central Election Commission and the Ministry of Digital Transformation discussed at a joint meeting an upcoming bill on electronic voting," the report reads.

The ministry said that it already has a study confirming the feasibility of introducing new electoral technologies, which was conducted by international partners IFES Ukraine with the support of USAID Ukraine and UK aid; a group working on a future bill; the first concept of the bill from MPs; and the concept of pilot e-voting at polling stations abroad.

The ministry added that there will be no full e-voting in local elections scheduled for October 25, 2020.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the introduction of electronic voting in presidential, parliamentary or local elections is an "ambitious but achievable" challenge.
