Chumak becomes acting prosecutor general

Viktor Chumak has been appointed as Acting Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office reports.

"Viktor Chumak becomes Acting Prosecutor General of Ukraine," reads a report on the website of Prosecutor General's Office.

It was earlier reported that First Deputy Prosecutor General Vitaliy Kasko had resigned.

As reported, on March 5, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a no-confidence motion against Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Riaboshapka. A total of 263 lawmakers voted in favor of this decision.

According to MP Serhiy Ionushas, an extraordinary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on the appointment of a new prosecutor general may take place no earlier than the next plenary week of March 17-20.
