Council of Europe delegation to make monitoring visit to Ukraine

A delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will carry out a monitoring visit to Ukraine to assess the implementation of the provisions of the European Charter of Local Self-Government.

On March 4-6, the delegation will visit Kyiv city and towns Fastiv and Tomashivka in Kyiv region, an Ukrinform correspondent reports from Strasbourg.

The Congress rapporteurs, Ms Gunn Marit Helgesen (Norway) and Ms Gudrun Mosler-Törnström (Austria) will meet in Kyiv on 4 March with Vitaliy Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv city, Serhiy Chernov, President of the Ukrainian Association of District and Regional Councils, Volodymyr Prokopiv, Head of the Ukrainian Delegation to Congress and other officials and experts in local self-government.

On March 5, the delegation will hold meetings with, among others, Vyacheslav Nehoda, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development, lawmakers, the leadership of the Accounting Chamber and judges.

On March 6, the delegation will work in Fastiv and Tomashivska to discuss the topical issues of local self-government with the local officials.

Ukraine ratified the European Charter of Local Self-Government in 1997.
