Zelensky: Ukraine ready to develop new forms of security partnership with US

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has assured of Ukraine's readiness to develop new forms of security partnership with the United States.

"Ukraine is ready to develop new forms of security partnership with the United States," Zelensky said at a press conference with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Zelensky noted that such readiness was confirmed by the first ever contract on direct purchase of Javelin anti-tank missile systems.

The parties also discussed strengthening the Ukrainian Navy thanks to the Island-class boats and strengthening the air defense of Ukraine through “considering the purchase of necessary weapons”, the President of Ukraine added.

In addition, the Head of State noted that Ukraine was actively cooperating with US partners in the field of defense industry reform.

"This will give impetus to mutually beneficial cooperation with US top defense companies," Zelensky is convinced.

At the same time, he recalled that the total amount of US assistance programs to Ukraine for 2020 was almost $700 million, and security assistance - $365 million.

"We appreciate your support in reforming the Armed Forces, supplying weapons and equipment, conducting military exercises for Ukrainian units," Zelensky told Pompeo.
