Britain removes Ukrainian trident from counter-extremism manual

The UK Counter Terrorism Policing has removed the Ukrainian coat of arms, trident, or tryzub in Ukrainian, from the counter-extremism guide, the UK Embassy in Ukraine has reported on Twitter.

"Excerpt from statement of the Counter Terrorism Policing UK on Ukrainian Constitutional Trident: 'We have a close working relationship with our Ukrainian partners and would not want to cause offence. We have met with representatives from the FCO and the Ukrainian Embassy, updated the Signs & Symbols Guidance Document and removed the Ukrainian constitutional trident," the tweet reads.

Earlier, British Security Minister Brandon Lewis said that Britain sincerely regretted any offence caused to the Ukrainian nation or its people.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on January 20 that it expected an official comment from the UK Foreign Office and the police on the inclusion of the Ukrainian trident in the counter-terrorism manual and, if the fact was confirmed, demanded the removal of the Ukrainian state symbol from the guide.
