335 politically motivated arrests recorded in Crimea last year

In 2019, 335 politically motivated arrests, including 43 arrests within new criminal cases, were recorded in the occupied Crimea.

“In 2019, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center recorded 86 searches, 157 detentions, 194 interrogations, interviews, and conversations, 335 arrests, of which 43 arrests within new criminal cases, including two in absentia,” Chief of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariyev announced at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In addition, the Mejlis member noted, 33 sentences against Crimean political prisoners and 252 judgments on the extension of detention were passed.

According to Bariyev, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center is aware of 578 cases of violation of the right of Crimeans to a fair trial.

The Center experts also recorded 90 cases of violation of the right to highest attainable standard of physical and mental health and 69 cases of illegal transfer of Crimean political prisoners in 2019.
