U.S. embassy hopes for thorough probe into vandalism of Holocaust memorial in Kryvyi Rih

The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine is concerned about recent reports of vandalism of a Holocaust memorial in Kryvyi Rih and hopes for a thorough and prompt investigation into the incident, according to a statement posted by the embassy on its Facebook page.

"We are deeply concerned by recent reports of vandalism of a Holocaust memorial in Kryvyi Rih. We hope to see a thorough, prompt investigation that holds fully accountable those involved in this unacceptable and disturbing act," the post reads.

Police have identified a man who damaged a Holocaust monument in Kryvyi Rih. It was a 31-year-old local resident who has previously been convicted of other crimes.

According to police, on January 19, the suspect damaged inscriptions on the Holocaust memorial located in the central district of the city. Criminal proceedings were launched under Part 1 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional destruction or damage to property).
