Ukraine to provide all needed assistance in investigation into UIA plane crash

Ukraine will provide all the needed support and assistance in the investigation into the crash of a Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) passenger plane in Iran.

The Communication Department of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers said this in a statement.

“The Ukrainian government expresses sincere condolences to the families of the victims. Ukraine will provide all the necessary support and assistance and is ready to investigate the causes of the plane crash in accordance with international law, in particular, Chicago Convention,” reads the statement.

Also, the Ukrainian government at its extraordinary meeting on January 8 decided to send a search and rescue team to Iran to participate in joint measures to investigate the causes of the tragedy and repatriation of the bodies of Ukrainian citizens.

The Ukrainian team includes representatives of the State Emergency Service, Defense Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry, Security Service, National Security and Defense Council, State Aviation Administration, National Bureau of Air Accidents Investigation,

As Ukrinform reported, all 176 people on board were killed in the crash of a Ukraine International Airlines plane (Flight PS752) heading from Tehran to Kyiv. The victims include 11 nationals of Ukraine (two passengers and nine crew members), 63 Canadians, 82 Iranians, 10 Swedes, four Afghans, three Germans, and British nationals.
