Taylor: Performance evaluation of prosecutors is one of most important reforms

William Taylor, the Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the United States in Ukraine, considers performance evaluation of prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine to be one of the most important and comprehensive reforms.

The diplomat said this at a briefing on the completion of the performance evaluation of prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"This is one of the most important and comprehensive reforms. The performance evaluation of prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine is only the first step towards performance evaluation of prosecutors of all prosecutor's offices of Ukraine aimed at inspiring trust in this body and increasing confidence in the rule of law in Ukraine," Taylor said.

He added that people in Ukraine, the business community and international partners would trust the Prosecutor General's Office thanks to this move and that trust is extremely important.

According to the diplomat, even more difficult part of the work will be done next year – not only hiring new prosecutors but also ensuring that thousands of prosecutors undergo similar procedures, meet the same standards as those already evaluated.

Taylor, on behalf of the US Embassy, congratulated Prosecutor General Ruslan Riaboshapka and his team on the successful implementation of this immensely important reform.

As reported, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Riaboshapka announced the launch of the reform of the Prosecutor General's Office after the adoption of the law No. 1032 on September 19.
