Interior minister, Canadian ambassador discuss cooperation in reforming National Guard

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and Canada's newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador in Ukraine Larisa Galadza have held a meeting to discuss a new strategic project, according to the ministry’s press service.

"The further cooperation with Canadian partners in reforming the National Guard of Ukraine, joint counteraction to drug trafficking, work on visa liberalization with Canada and implementation of a new ITA [International Technical Assistance] project are the key issues that were discussed by Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine Larisa Galadza,” reads the report.

The project is aimed at improving the security policy in Ukraine through the support of local strategic reform, in particular, the introduction of more efficient and gender-sensitive National Police.

The parties also discussed the further cooperation within the National Guard reform and agreed to work out with the migration service the terms of visa liberalization regime with Canada.
