Ukraine's Honorary Consulate opens in Vitebsk

The Honorary Consulate of Ukraine opened in Vitebsk, Belarus, on Wednesday, December 11, according to BelTA.

"The work on opening the consulate in Vitebsk was underway for about one-and-a-half years," Ukraine's Ambassador to Belarus Ihor Kyzym said.

He added that the new consulate would promote the development of relations between the Vitebsk region and Ukrainian regions.

"I have high hopes for Honorary Consul Ihor Kalinichenko. He is a businessman. The main thing in his work will be assistance in establishing economic relations so that it could be easier for Ukrainian entrepreneurs to start their business in Vitebsk. We also expect Vitebsk business to go to Ukraine," the ambassador said.

The diplomat expressed hope that the work of the Association of Ukrainians in Vitebsk would be intensified. The Consulate will also assist in resolving issues of Ukrainian citizens during their stay in Belarus, protecting their rights.

According to the report, trade between the Vitebsk region and Ukraine in January-October 2019 amounted to $264.2 million, including $196.9 million worth of exports to Ukraine.
