Zelensky: Indefinite ceasefire should start by year-end

The Normandy Four leaders have agreed that the measures for establishing complete, comprehensive and indefinite ceasefire should be taken by the end of this year.

“Today, Ukraine, Germany, France and the Russian Federation have discussed and agreed on some very important things. The first thing is the urgent measures to stabilize the security situation in eastern Ukraine. It is complete, comprehensive and indefinite ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, which should start by the end of 2019,” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said at a joint press conference of the Normandy Four leaders in Paris, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, the Ukrainian side insisted that a comprehensive solution to all the issues was impossible without ensuring the most important component: the security situation in eastern Ukraine.

The political issues can be settled only if security is ensured, the President of Ukraine underscored.

The Head of State also noted that the Normandy Four leaders emphasized the need to expand the OSCE SMM mandate, granting a possibility of round-the-clock monitoring.
