Sweden may increase investment in Ukraine – PM Lofven

Sweden may increase investment in the Ukrainian economy if the rule of law is strengthened, corruption is combated and the influence of oligarchs in Ukraine is reduced.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said this at a joint briefing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Wednesday.

"We hope to strengthen relations between our countries in the sphere of trade and investment. [...] If the provisions of the Association Agreement are implemented, the potential of these further investments and relations looks very promising. But this potential can only be realized if Ukraine works to strengthen the rule of law, fight corruption and reduce the influence of oligarchs," he said.

He added that all these things are necessary to transform Ukraine into a truly European country.

Lofven welcomed the very ambitious reform agenda of the Zelensky team and the government of Ukraine and recalled that Sweden is the second largest technical assistance donor for Ukraine.

"We plan to continue supporting Ukraine's efforts to improve people's lives and get closer to the EU," he said.
