Zelensky: Elections in Donbas one of most difficult topics of Normandy Four meeting

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky intends to discuss a number of important issues at the upcoming Normandy Four meeting, and holding local elections in the already liberated territories of Donbas is expected to be one of the most difficult topics.

"There are the most important things, I told about them... First of all, it’s a complete understanding of a specific list of all Ukrainian prisoners with the timeline of their return. It is the first important point. The second issue is not fake but serious ceasefire when there are no shots fired, with clear time limits also," Zelensky told journalists during a visit to Stanytsia Luhanska village in Luhansk region, when asked about his expectations of the Normandy Four meeting scheduled for December 9, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In this context, the President added that he would like to discuss the parties' commitments to ceasefire.

"What we are going to do if we agree on ceasefire and the fire is opened again. I would like to talk about this and have a result," the Head of State said.

The third important topic of discussion within the Normandy format is the restoration of Ukraine’s control over Ukraine-Russia border in Donbas.

"The fourth issue – I think it is one of the most difficult as it has many components – is the possibility of holding local elections already in the territory of Ukraine, not in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. This is the most important issue," the President summed up.
