Ministry for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine to be engaged in search for missing persons

The Ministry for Veterans, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine plans to take over the functions of searching for missing persons, maintaining an appropriate register and working with prisoners of war.

Minister for Veterans, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Oksana Koliada said this during the presentation and discussion of the bill on the social and legal protection of persons deprived of their liberty as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent report.

"We want to take responsibility for the search for missing persons, maintaining a register and working with prisoners of war. Moreover, we plan to expand the office, which is now dealing with issues of prisoners of war, to the department, taking into account the expansion of functions for working with missing persons," the minister said.

She also noted that the Ministry had signed a memorandum of cooperation with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, under which a separate agency dealt with these issues, and "we have already begun to work and adopt their experience."
