New EU ambassador presents credentials to Ukrainian president

New EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas has presented his credentials to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Mariyinsky Palace, the press service of the EU Delegation to Ukraine has reported on Facebook.

"Matti Maasikas presented his credentials today to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the Mariyinsky Palace, officially assuming the office of EU Ambassador to Ukraine," the report reads.

Maasikas said that he was deeply honored to represent the European Union in Ukraine and to head one of the biggest EU delegations.

"As Ambassador, I am working on our ever-improving relations and on bringing the EU and Ukraine closer together," Maasikas added.

After formal introductions, President Zelensky and Ambassador Maasikas expressed their shared commitment to a broad reform agenda aimed at improving the life of Ukrainian citizens.

New EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas officially assumed office in September.
