NATO Representation to Ukraine supports efforts to implement Minsk agreements

The NATO Representation to Ukraine has supported efforts to implement the Minsk agreements, including the disengagement of troops and the approval of the so-called "Steinmeier formula".

Head of the NATO Representation to Ukraine Alexander Vinnikov said this at a briefing in Severodonetsk of Luhansk region on Tuesday, October 8, Hromadske reports.

"NATO fully supports the implementation of the Minsk agreements by all parties. We also welcome the approval of the "Steinmeier formula" by the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk, which can lead to the full implementation of the Minsk agreements," Vinnikov said.

He also noted that NATO called on Russia to fully comply with its obligations. "We support all efforts to reduce tensions and promote the full implementation of the agreements since this is the only way to a political settlement," Vinnikov added.

On October 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine had agreed to the text of the "Steinmeier formula." According to him, the document envisages the approval in Ukraine of a temporary law on a special status for Donbas, which will come into force if the OSCE recognizes local elections in occupied territories of Donbas, held under Ukrainian law, as democratic.
