Dodon wants to meet with Zelensky at UN General Assembly

President of Moldova Igor Dodon has expressed hope that he will meet with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensk on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“Most likely, we [the presidents of Moldova and Ukraine] will meet at the UN,” Dodon said, according to the Moldovan media outlet.

According to him, presidential teams are negotiating on this issue.

Touching upon his own statement that “Crimea is de facto Russian,” Dodon recalled “the position of the leaders of the Republic of Moldova, which has not changed over the past 28 years.” The position is that "Moldova during all the years of its independence has supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine."

Dodon's first statement of intent to meet with Zelensky came after Zelensky's victory in the presidential election in spring 2019. During a phone conversation, bilateral relations in various fields of mutual interest were discussed. The interlocutors also agreed to hold a bilateral meeting and discuss topical issues in the near future.
