Kyiv mayoral election may take place on Dec 8 - bill

A bill introducing amendments to the law "On the capital of Ukraine - hero city of Kyiv," which foresees the holding of early elections of the mayor and the city council on December 8, 2019, has been tabled in the Verkhovna Rada, according to Hromadske.

"The initiators of the bill are 39 MPs, the lion's share - 36 - of whom represent the ruling Servant of the People party. The other three parliamentarians include one independent deputy and two from Opposition Platform - For Life," the statement said.

It notes that the document provides for the separation of posts of the Kyiv mayor and the head of Kyiv City State Administration.

In addition, MPs propose liquidating district state administrations in the capital within six months from the entry into force of the law.
