Slovakia supports sanctions against Russia until implementation of Minsk agreements – Caputova

Slovakia considers EU sanctions against Russia a legitimate tool for restoring justice and supports their extension until the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Caputova said this at a joint briefing with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Monday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“Each conflict settlement must be based on the principles of international law and respect for sovereignty and internationally recognized borders. This concerns Donbas and Crimea and Sevastopol. Therefore, Slovakia agrees with the position of the European Union and supports the extension of sanctions against Russia until the Minsk agreements are implemented and Ukraine gains control over its territory," Caputova said.

She also assured that after the expiration of the Slovak Chairmanship of the OSCE, the country's position regarding the intention to help resolve the conflict in Donbas would remain unchanged.

“We consider sanctions against Russia a legitimate tool that is a consequence of a violation of international law. We consider them a tool of justice,” the Slovak president emphasized.
