Ukraine would welcome U.S. accession to Normandy format – Zelensky

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with Assistant to the U.S. President for National Security Affairs (NSA) John Bolton, according to the president’s press service.

The meeting was dedicated to the priority measures aimed to strengthen the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States, in particular, the preparation of bilateral negotiations at the level of heads of state.

The parties discussed the possibilities of deepening Ukrainian-American cooperation in the fields of security and defense, energy security, as well as in reforming the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian defense industry.

Zelensky thanked the U.S. for its strong support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, consistent official policy as regards Crimea and efforts aimed at reaching progress in the peaceful settlement in Donbas.

The president expressed hope that the U.S. would be more involved in the negotiation process regarding Donbas. He noted that Ukraine would welcome the accession of the United States to the Normandy format.

Zelensky emphasized the importance of the consolidated position of the United States and other partners of Ukraine to ensure the release of Ukrainian sailors and other illegally detained citizens.
