Pompeo says he will work to bring Russia back to G7

The United States will work to bring Russia back to the G7 next year, U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo has stated.

In an interview with Fox 59, Pompeo was asked whether he agreed with U.S. President Donald Trump’s pronouncement that Russia should be invited back to the G7 summit next year.

"The President thinks that's what we should do. I work for the President. Of course, we're going to work towards that end," Pompeo said.

As reported, Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron during a telephone conversation on August 20 agreed to return Russia to the G7 as early as next year. The governments of Germany, Canada and the United Kingdom opposed this decision. Later, according to media reports, Trump said that it was possible to invite Russia as a “guest” to the next summit, which will be held in the U.S. in 2020.
