Kremlin confirms Putin and Macron discuss prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the exchange of detained persons in Russia and Ukraine, but without calling names, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov has said.

The presidents discussed in detail the issue of resolving the conflict in Donbas and Russia-Ukraine relations, Russian Interfax reports.

"Certain contacts on this issue are carried out," Peskov said in reply to a specifying question about possible progress in a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine.

Earlier, the Russian media outlet reported that five Ukrainian political prisoners had been transferred to the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center in Moscow from the penal colonies where they served sentences.

According to the human rights activist, Stanislav Klykh, Mykola Karpiuk, Oleksandr Kolchenko, Volodymyr Balukh and Roman Sushchenko now stay in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center in Moscow. The human rights activists learnt this from the head of the regime and security department, Aleksandr Khanov. However, the public monitoring commission members have not received any documents.
