EU Commissioner Hahn: Civil activist Kateryna Handziuk not forgotten

The European Union has not forgotten the attack on activist Kateryna Handziuk and the fact that instigators behind the attack have still not been brought to justice.

“Brave civil activist Kateryna Handziuk was attacked with acid one year ago on this day and later succumbed to her serious injuries. She is not forgotten, I have her picture in my office. And we don’t forget that the instigators behind the attack have still not been brought to justice,” EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn posted on Twitter.

As reported, on July 31, 2018, an acid attack was made on activist Kateryna Handziuk near the entrance to her house in Kherson. Burns covered 40 percent of her body. She underwent several operations but died on November 4, 2018.

Six people were detained on suspicion of commission of or complicity in attempted murder of Kateryna Handziuk.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine suspended pre-trial investigation in relation to Vladyslav Manher and Oleksiy Levin suspected of organization of the attack.
