Zelensky invites Lukashenko to Forum of Regions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has invited his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko to attend the second Forum of Regions of Ukraine and Belarus, to be held in Zhytomyr this autumn, Ukraine's Ambassador to Belarus Ihor Kyzym has told BelTA.

"Preparations are underway, as planned. In any case, our leaders are aware of this. They are aware of the matter. Respective steps on formalization have been taken," Kyzym said.

He specified that Zelensky had sent an official invitation to Lukashenko to take part in this event.

"I think the invitation will be accepted. It has been planned from the very beginning that this should happen under the patronage of the leaders of the two states," the ambassador said.

He added that a meeting of the Belarusian-Ukrainian working group on interregional and cross-border cooperation was held in late April and that the sides were now preparing for a concrete plan for holding this event.

The first Forum of Regions of Ukraine and Belarus was held in Gomel in late October 2018. It was attended by Presidents of Belarus and Ukraine Alexander Lukashenko and Petro Poroshenko.
