Zelensky invites EU politicians calling for lifting of sanctions on Russia to visit Donbas

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that international sanctions against the Russian Federation are the only bloodless way of returning peace and called on supporters of lifting the sanctions to visit Donbas.

He said this at a press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Tuesday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We did not start this war, but we dream and fight for its completion every day. We do not want the sanctions to affect our European partners who have decided to stand by us to restore law and justice in Europe. But this is the only bloodless way of restoring peace to the continent and it must be passed to the very end," Zelensky said.

In this context, he added that he was aware of the calls of some German politicians and business representatives regarding the need to lift sanctions on Russia and resume business activity with Russia.

"I urge those who are campaigning for the lifting of sanctions to visit Donbas and see how much disaster this war has brought to the people of Ukraine. Look at Crimea, which has turned from a tourist land and a natural pearl into a real military camp," Zelensky said.

Zelensky is on an official visit to Berlin (Germany) on June 18.
