Klimkin: Russia will be forced to take part in talks on Crimea

The verdicts of international courts will force Russia to take part in the negotiations regarding Crimea.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said this in comments to the Krym.Realii portal.

“I am sure that Russia will be forced to sit down at the negotiating table ... There will be a decision of the International Court regarding two fundamental conventions, including a ban on the financing of racial discrimination. There will be a decision of the International Court of Arbitration in accordance with the Convention on the Law of the Sea. It’s quite clear for them what Russia is doing. And Russia will be forced to discuss the consequences of these decisions,” the minister said.

According to Klimkin, at first Russia will be forced to discuss humanitarian and environmental problems in Crimea. Then the parties will discuss the status of the annexed peninsula and its de-occupation.

“Representatives of the countries and international organizations can sit down at the negotiating table,” Klimkin believes. But he did not predict when exactly such negotiations could begin.
