Zelensky calls for renewing dialogue within NATO-Ukraine Commission at all levels

Ukraine hopes to renew regular dialogue within the NATO-Ukraine Commission at all levels and invites the North Atlantic Council to hold a meeting in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

He said this at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels on Tuesday, June 4, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We hope to renew our regular dialogue within the framework of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the level of heads of state and government, defense and foreign ministers. We look forward to welcoming the North Atlantic Council to Ukraine," Zelensky said.

He added that the Ukrainian authorities want to keep the existing mechanisms of cooperation and any other that the Alliance will be ready to offer, but at the moment we have to focus on the implementation of internal reform that will bring Ukraine closer to NATO standards.

"Proper implementation of the law on national security is among my first tasks. I mean reform of the Security Service, reform of intelligence agencies, reform of the defense industry, democratic civilian control over the security and defense sector," Zelensky said.

According to him, Ukraine, which is a stable and democratic state capable of defending itself, is an integral part of European security.

"I am confident that our distinctive partnership within the Alliance will advance effectively. I hope that in the long run, we will be able to transform our partnership into full-fledged membership in the Alliance," Zelensky said.
