Maas, Pompeo talk about war in Donbas

Germany and the United States want to resolve the conflict in Donbas and are ready to support Ukraine in carrying out reforms.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas stated this after a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo in Berlin on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The new government and the new president deserve our full support in order to continue the course of reforms in Ukraine. We are working (on this), in particular, within the framework of the Group of Seven, and this is an important step for further development of Ukraine,” Maas said.

He stressed that many conflicts in the world could be resolved only by combined efforts of the United States and Europe. One of such conflicts is in eastern Ukraine. According to the German foreign minister, steps to implement the Minsk agreements are urgently needed in order to establish a real ceasefire regime. This issue will be soon discussed at different levels of the "Normandy format," the diplomat said.
