Zelensky's team initiates parliament’s extraordinary meeting tomorrow

The team of President Volodymyr Zelensky will offer to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on Wednesday, May 22, to adopt changes to the electoral law.

Zelensky’s advisor Andriy Bohdan said this following the consultations of President Zelensky with representatives of the parliamentary factions held in the Presidential Administration on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"A date of the extraordinary meeting is determined by the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. We will offer to hold the meeting tomorrow [May 22] since it will be the most optimal time for publishing the decree [on dissolving the Rada] to comply with all the norms of the Constitution. It may be necessary to wait a couple of days in order to hold the early meeting and to sign and publish the results of the vote so that the new electoral process starts ahead of the election process,” he said.

On May 20, President Volodymyr Zelensky during his inaugural speech announced about the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada. Later, Zelensky appointed a meeting with leaders of parliamentary factions for May 21.
