Zelensky signs his first decree

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has assumed the powers of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

A decree to that effect, No. 300/2019, was published on the website of the head of state on Monday, May 20.

"Due to my taking up the post of the President of Ukraine on May 20, 2019, in accordance with paragraph 17 of Part 1 of Article 106 of the Constitution of Ukraine, I assume from this day the powers of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the document reads.

On May 20, Volodymyr Zelensky took an oath and became the sixth president of Ukraine.
