Pavlo Klimkin resigns as Ukrainian foreign minister

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin wrote a letter of resignation from this post.

He announced this in a video posted on his Facebook page on Friday.

“As I promised, I have just written a letter of resignation. On Monday, on the day of inauguration, I will submit it to the Verkhovna Rada and the new president of Ukraine,” he said.

Klimkin noted that he had informed the Ukrainian president-elect in advance.

“He should have the right to his foreign policy team and strategy. But I told him that I am ready to help if necessary and if our principles and our vision coincide,” he said.

Klimkin thanked everyone who worked with him during "these unique five years."

He also announced his intention to run for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
