Samopomich to support Zelensky's inauguration on May 19

The head of the Samopomich faction in the Ukrainian parliament, Oleh Bereziuk, has said that he does not see the point in not supporting the decision on the inauguration of Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky on May 19.

He told this to journalists before the 18th congress of the Samopomich Union on Saturday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"It makes no sense not to support that," Berezyuk said, when asked whether Samopomich would support a resolution on the inauguration of the newly elected Ukrainian president on May 19.

At the same time, Bereziuk stressed that "the newly elected Ukrainian president has received the trust of his voters, won the election with an unprecedented result, having made some promises."

"He must be given as soon as possible the opportunity to start fulfilling these promises, because he is responsible for them. This is my position and the position of our political force," Bereziuk said.

Regarding the possible dissolution of parliament, the politician said: "It will either happen or not happen. This is not of fundamental importance today."

Five resolutions on the date of inauguration of Ukraine's President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky have already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. MPs propose holding the inauguration on May 19, May 20, or June 1.

On May 10, Zelensky addressed Ukrainian MPs and demanded that they set the date of his inauguration for May 19.
