Poroshenko plans to cancel posts of regional governors in case he wins elections

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said that if he wins the presidential elections, he will initiate amendments to the Constitution to eliminate the posts of heads of regional state administrations.

Poroshenko said this at a meeting with journalists in a conference hall of the NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv on April 14, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“Immediately after the presidential elections, I will initiate changes to the Constitution so that to eliminate the posts of heads of regional state administrations, since this is a continuation of the decentralization reform,” Poroshenko said.

According to him, regional governors must be replaced by prefects, executive power will be transferred to the communities.

As reported, on April 14, President Poroshenko arrived at the NSC Olimpiyskiy to participate in the pre-election debate with presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky. However, Zelensky did not come. Poroshenko met with his supporters in the square outside the stadium and then held a briefing in the conference hall of the national sports complex.
