President: Ukraine can get ‘road map’ for joining NATO until 2023

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has assured that Ukraine can get an action plan on NATO membership until 2023.

"Ukraine can get an action plan on NATO membership until 2023, and it will contain a list of steps and a date as a road map," Poroshenko said on the air of the Ukraine TV channel, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The President also recalled that he planned to raise an issue of providing Ukraine with a Membership Action Plan (MAP) at the NATO summit in London in December 2019.

"There is no other mechanism in the world to protect the national interests and security of the state, except NATO, which has proved its effectiveness," the Head of State stressed, adding that after the start of the Russian aggression, Russia has destroyed the entire post-war global security system based on the UN Security Council.

As reported, on February 7, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law on the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the strategic steps of the country to gain full membership of Ukraine in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which had been initiated by the President. The law was supported by 334 lawmakers.

On February 19, President Petro Poroshenko signed the corresponding amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine.
