US set to have serious conversation with Russia on situation in Donbas

The United States is interested in continuing negotiations with Russia regarding the restoration of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine when the Russian Federation will be ready for a serious conversation.

"We are still interested in negotiating with the Russian Federation on the restoration of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, so far we are talking primarily about Donbas. Russia has not yet expressed its interest in settling this issue, but we hope that it will happen someday," U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker said at the 5th International Forum "Occupied Crimea: Five Years of Resistance," an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He believes that when Russia starts a serious discussion about ending the aggression in eastern Ukraine, the humanitarian situation in the region will improve and the territorial integrity of Ukraine will be restored.

"We will support Ukraine until this happens," the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations promised.

Volker also stressed that the United States would never recognize the annexation of Crimea, and the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had made a corresponding statement recently.
