Canada ready to help Ukraine hold free and fair elections

Canada is ready to help Ukraine hold free and fair elections.

“We talked about the importance of holding free and fair elections in Ukraine, as well as Canada’s commitment to supporting Ukraine during the electoral process,” Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland said after a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

In addition, two diplomats discussed the situation in the Sea of Azov and the capture of Ukrainian sailors. “I confirmed the insistence of Canada that these sailors must be released,” the minister said.

The parties also touched upon the conference on reforms in Ukraine, which will be held in Toronto in early July. “For the world community, it is very important to support Ukraine on its path towards the reforms,” Freeland summed up.

As a reminder, 50 members of the Canadian long-term election observation mission have already begun their work in Ukraine. About 100 Canadian observers more are expected to arrive later.
