Ukraine recognizes Guaido as leader of only one legitimate public authority of Venezuela

Ukraine has recognized head of the Venezuelan National Assembly Juan Guaido as the leader of the only one democratically elected public authority in Venezuela and believes that he will be able to organize the democratic elections in the country.

“Ukraine recognizes Juan Guaido as the head of the only one democratically elected public authority of Venezuela, the National Assembly, and the leader of the democratic opposition. Consequently, the restoration of democratic governance in the country depends on him and other leaders of the Venezuelan political forces, in particular, by reaching agreements on holding the democratic elections that would be certified by the international observers," Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Kateryna Zelenko told Ukrinform.

She added that Ukraine called on the Venezuelan authorities to make every effort to prevent the use of force for settling the political crisis, as well as to counter an economic catastrophe that already caused humanitarian problems and suffering of the Venezuelan people.

As reported, a number of the European Union countries recognized Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the interim president of the country, pressuring the incumbent president Nicolas Maduro to step down.

At present, Guaido has been recognized as the Venezuelan interim president by Austria, the UK, Denmark, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. France also states that Guaido has the right to organize an early presidential election since Maduro refused to do so.
