Yatsenyuk calls on president to 'free Ukraine from Putin's kum'

People's Front party leader and former Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has called on President Petro Poroshenko to free Ukraine from Vladimir Putin's kum, probably meaning Viktor Medvedchuk (the Russian president is the godfather to Medvedchuk's daughter).

Yatsenyuk said this after announcing a resolution of the congress of the People's Front party on Saturday, February 2, an Ukrinform correspondent said.

"I have a personal appeal to Petro Poroshenko. Mr. President, we call on members of the European Union to free Ukrainian hostages, and I call on you to free Ukraine from Putin's kum. He does not free hostages. He takes hostages with the hand of his Putin's and anti-Ukrainian element," Yatsenyuk said.

The parliamentary faction of the People's Front initiates the creation of a temporary investigative commission in the Verkhovna Rada to investigate the interference of the Russian Federation and Ukrainian citizens related to the authorities of the aggressor state, in particular, Viktor Medvedchuk, in the electoral, political process and information space of Ukraine.

Yatsenyuk said at the People's Front party congress on February 2 that he would not participate in the presidential election on March 31, 2019, but intends to bring his party to victory in parliamentary elections this fall.
