Ukrainian consul not allowed to visit political prisoner Pavlo Hryb

Ukrainian consul was not allowed to visit political prisoner Pavlo Hryb.

"I need to assert that the Russian Federation again violates the international norms and obligations. The Ukrainian consul was not allowed to visit Pavlo Hryb. It is a gross violation of the provisions of Article 13 of the Consular Convention between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. It clearly stipulates that the consular officials have the right to visit the citizens of Ukraine in the places of their detention on the territory of the Russian Federation," Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova posted on Facebook.

She is convinced that the actions of the Russian Federation "are another attempt to conceal the real health status of Pavlo Hryb."

"The 20-year-old political prisoner has a developmental birth defect - cavernous transformation of the portal vein, portal hypertension, erosive gastritis and a number of other dangerous diseases. The health examination was conducted in the diagnostics and consulting center in the city of Rostov-on-Don," Denisova noted.

She repeatedly emphasized that the diagnosed diseases posed a threat to life of Pavlo Hryb.

"I again appeal to the international organizations and diplomats, asking to help provide the Ukrainian citizens with immediate medical care and take all possible measures to ensure the impartial monitoring of the observance of the rights and freedoms of the political prisoner," the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights underscored.

Pavlo Hryb disappeared on August 24, 2017 in Belarus, where he went to the city of Gostomel to date a girl with whom he communicated on the social network.

In September, it became known that Pavlo Hryb was in a detention center in Krasnodar (Russia), charged with terrorism. At the same time, his lawyer said that Pavlo had been kidnapped by FSB officers.

On November 7, the North Caucasus Military District Court in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don extended the arrest of Pavlo Hryb until April 24, 2019.
