Sajdik did not agree his 'peace plan' with UN – Secretary-General spokesperson

The UN Secretary-General has not received any communication from the OSCE Chairperson's Special Representative to the Trilateral Contact Group, Martin Sajdik, on a new peace plan for Donbas.

Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said this at a briefing on January 30, an Ukrinform correspondent said.

"We've seen press reports of somebody proposing this plan. I am not aware of any official communication from the OSCE to the United Nations laying out the details of the plan," he said, when asked by an Ukrinform correspondent whether Sajdik and the OSCE addressed the General-Secretary and the UN with the request to agree on a new "peace plan."

Dujarric added that he could not comment on Sajdik's plan without seeing any details.

He recalled that the UN continues to support the efforts of the Normandy Four countries, the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk and the OSCE on the settlement of the situation in Donbas.

Earlier, Sajdik said in an interview with Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung that a new peace plan for Donbas, which should replace the Minsk agreements, must be approved by the Normandy Four countries - Ukraine, Russia, France, and Germany.

According to him, in addition to a joint mission of the United Nations and the OSCE (with military and police components and international administration in temporarily occupied territories in Donbas), the plan also envisages a Donbas reconstruction agency organized by the European Union, similar to the one that operated in the Balkans.

Ukrainian officials criticized Sajdik's statement. In particular, First Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko stated that Sajdik does not have a mandate from either the OSCE or the Normandy Four countries to elaborate a "peace plan" for Ukraine.

On January 30, after a meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk, Sajdik expressed his commitment to the Minsk agreements and said there is no alternative to them.
